Pacing Console vs your own Google Ads scripts: build the pacing logic or use it
By Hojabr Sattari. Updated .
Google Ads scripts are free, run inside your account and can both pace and change budgets, so a team with JavaScript skills can build its own pacing, as Google’s Flexible Budgets solution shows. Pacing Console uses the same mechanism but ships the work done: a pre-filled, self-updating script for Google Ads and Microsoft Ads, LinkedIn Ads through a connection, an hourly pacing board, forecasts, a daily email and, on Pro, one-click changes and CRM pipeline by campaign. Pick your own scripts if you have a developer and want custom logic; pick Pacing Console if you want pacing working this week, free or at $49 per workspace a month.

At a glance
| Criterion | Pacing Console | Google Ads scripts |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A pacing board, forecasts and recommendations, fed by scripts we write and update | Google’s JavaScript automation platform inside Google Ads; you write or adapt the pacing logic |
| Price | Free for up to 3 users at any spend; Pro $49 per workspace a month or $490 a year, 10 users included, then $5 per extra user; Enterprise $20 per user a month, billed annually, from 25 users | No additional cost, per Google; the cost is the time to write and maintain the code |
| Skills needed | Copy, paste and schedule | JavaScript; Google says entry-level knowledge is enough to start |
| Schedule | Hourly | Hourly, daily, weekly, monthly or on demand |
| Platforms | Google Ads, Microsoft Ads and LinkedIn Ads in one board | Google Ads only; Microsoft Ads and LinkedIn Ads need separate code or tools |
| Manager accounts | One script covers every account under a manager account | Manager scripts process up to 50 accounts in parallel for up to 60 minutes; single-account scripts stop at 30 minutes |
| Pacing logic | Cut-to-date to the pull hour, weekday schedules, flight dates, month-by-month plans | Whatever you code; Google’s Flexible Budgets solution sets one campaign’s daily budget from a total and a date range, scheduled daily |
| Budget changes | Recommendations you accept, applied by your script on its next run (Pro), logged; shared budgets skipped | Fully automatic if you code it; Flexible Budgets runs in test mode until you enable the live call |
| Dashboard, alerts and sharing | Pacing board, daily email, read-only report link, team roles | Built with the Sheets, Drive and email services you wire up yourself |
| Maintenance | Scripts update themselves on each run | Yours: code changes, errors and limits, which Google says can change without notice |
Where Pacing Console wins
- No code to write or maintain: paste a pre-filled script once and each run loads the latest version
- Google Ads, Microsoft Ads and LinkedIn Ads paced in one board, not three separate projects
- A pacing board, month-end forecasts and a daily email out of the box
- A person approves every budget change, and each one is logged with who asked and why
- CRM pipeline by campaign and a read-only report link for finance and clients
Where Google Ads scripts wins
- Free at any scale, with no vendor involved
- Unlimited flexibility: any rule or budget logic you can code
- Fully automatic budget changes if you want them, without a person approving each one
- Ready-made Google solutions, such as Flexible Budgets, to adapt as a starting point
- Access to the whole scripting API, including bids, keywords and status, not only budgets
Pacing Console is built on scripts too
Pacing Console uses the same free Google Ads Scripts and Microsoft Ads Scripts platforms. The difference is who maintains the code. Our script runs inside your account, sends only campaign names, IDs, spend, conversions and daily budgets for the current month, and updates itself on each run, so a change on our side never needs a new paste. The pacing math, forecasts, recommendations, LinkedIn connection and CRM pipeline live in the console rather than in a script you keep alive. If you already run custom scripts for bids or keywords, keep them: Pacing Console only applies the budget changes you accept, and it skips shared budgets.
How to switch from Google Ads scripts
- Create a free Pacing Console workspace; it starts with a 30-day Pro trial, no credit card.
- Pause any custom script that changes the same budgets, so two scripts never adjust one campaign.
- Paste the pre-filled scripts into Google Ads and Microsoft Ads (one per manager account), schedule them hourly and connect LinkedIn Ads.
- Enter monthly budgets, flight dates and weekday schedules from your script’s settings.
- Keep your other scripts for bids, keywords or checks; Pacing Console only touches budgets you approve.

Frequently asked questions
Can I build budget pacing with Google Ads scripts?
Yes. Scripts are free and can read spend and set budgets. Google’s Flexible Budgets solution, for example, spreads a total over a date range for one campaign and is meant to run daily. You write and maintain the code, and Microsoft Ads and LinkedIn Ads need their own solutions.
Does Pacing Console use Google Ads scripts?
Yes. It gives you a pre-filled script for Google Ads and one for Microsoft Ads, scheduled hourly. They update themselves, run inside your accounts and send only campaign data. LinkedIn connects with read-only sign-in.
What are the limits of Google Ads scripts?
Google lists a 30-minute run time for a single-account script, up to 60 minutes and 50 accounts in parallel for manager scripts, and 250 authorized scripts per account, and says the limits can change without notice.
Will Pacing Console conflict with my existing scripts?
Only if another script changes the same budgets. Pacing Console changes a budget only when someone accepts a recommendation on Pro. Scripts for bids, keywords or link checks can keep running.
