HubSpot ABM and buyer intent vs Demandbase, from a Demandbase partner
By Hojabr Sattari. Updated .
HubSpot now offers ABM tools and buyer intent inside the CRM: target accounts, ICP tiers, buying roles, visitor and research intent, company news and Company Surge signals, plus LinkedIn audiences. Demandbase is a dedicated ABM platform built around account-based advertising and orchestration, integrated with your CRM. If your CRM is HubSpot and your account list is focused, HubSpot can cover the core of an ABM program with less setup and one data model. If you need heavier advertising orchestration or work across several systems, a dedicated platform may fit better. We are a Demandbase partner and implement both, so the recommendation follows your data and team.
At a glance
| Criterion | HubSpot ABM | Demandbase |
|---|---|---|
| Best known for | Account model, intent signals and ABM reporting inside the CRM you already use | Account-based advertising and one platform for data, intent and orchestration |
| Where it lives | Inside HubSpot, on the same company, contact and deal records | A separate platform integrated with your CRM and marketing automation |
| Account model | Target account flag, ICP tiers 1 to 3 and buying roles, set manually or by workflow | Account lists and segments built in the platform and synced to the CRM |
| Intent signals | Visitor intent, third-party research intent, company news, custom signals and Company Surge (Bombora, up to 12 topics) | Intent keyword sets and platform data, managed in the platform |
| Advertising | Target account segments sync to LinkedIn as company audiences | Native B2B advertising built around account lists |
| Cost model | HubSpot subscription plus HubSpot Credits; tracking a company is a monthly credit charge | A separate subscription on top of your CRM; ask for a quote against your account count |
| Setup effort | Mostly configuration in the CRM: account model, signal rules, workflows | Integration with CRM and marketing automation, account matching, segments and orchestrations |
| Reporting | Native in HubSpot, alongside attribution and revenue reports | In the platform, joined to CRM reporting |
| Plan requirements | ABM tools: Marketing Hub and Sales Hub, Professional or Enterprise; buyer intent: several hubs, credits for most features | Platform contract; our Demandbase programs start with a fixed-fee 90-day pilot |
What HubSpot's ABM tools and buyer intent cover
According to HubSpot's documentation, ABM tools add a Target account property and an Ideal customer profile tier to companies, a Buying role property to contacts, a target accounts home that recommends companies to pursue, an account overview with activity, contacts, deals and tracked page views, auto-created segments, and an ABM dashboard. With a connected LinkedIn Ads account, company segments can sync to LinkedIn as audiences.
Buyer intent adds signals to company records: visitor intent from your own site, research intent from third-party sites, company news such as funding and executive hires, custom signals described in plain language, and Company Surge powered by Bombora. Most of these features use HubSpot Credits, and HubSpot marked the Buyer Intent tool as beta when we checked in October 2026.
Where the decision usually turns
- CRM: if you run HubSpot Marketing Hub and Sales Hub at Professional or Enterprise, the HubSpot route avoids a new integration. If your CRM is something else, or you run several, a dedicated platform is the more natural hub.
- Account universe: a focused list agreed with sales suits HubSpot well. Very large account universes with many segments is where teams most often look at a dedicated platform.
- Advertising: syncing audiences to LinkedIn covers one channel. If account-based advertising across several networks is the core job, test that use case in a Demandbase demo.
- Operating capacity: either route needs a weekly owner. HubSpot lowers the setup burden; neither removes the need for sales agreement on what happens when a signal fires.
- Cost: model the full monthly cost of each, including HubSpot Credits for tracked companies on one side and the platform subscription and integration work on the other.
What we ask you to test before you decide
- Pick 50 real target accounts and check how many resolve to a company in HubSpot's visitor identification over 30 days.
- List the five signals that should alert a rep and confirm each can fire, route to an owner and be measured in your CRM.
- Ask each vendor to show the exact advertising use case you need, with your account count and channels.
- Price the first year of each route in full, including credits, integration and the people who operate it.
- Agree with sales what happens in the first hour after a Tier 1 signal. If that play does not exist, neither tool will help.
How PlanConversion fits
We are a Demandbase partner and have implemented 6sense for large enterprises, and we set up HubSpot ABM, buyer intent and attribution inside the CRM. Because we do all three, we have no reason to push one route. Many teams start in HubSpot, prove that account-based follow-up produces meetings, and then decide whether a dedicated platform earns its cost.
Which one fits your team
Choose HubSpot ABM when
- Your CRM is HubSpot and you are on Marketing Hub and Sales Hub at Professional or Enterprise
- You have a focused account list that sales has agreed
- You want ABM, attribution and revenue reporting in one system
- You want to prove the account-based motion before signing a new platform contract
Choose Demandbase when
- You need account-based advertising orchestration across large account universes and several networks
- You want a dedicated platform and operating team for ABM
- Your CRM is not HubSpot, or you run more than one CRM
- You already run Demandbase and want to get more from it
Frequently asked questions
Can HubSpot replace Demandbase?
For some teams, yes. HubSpot covers target accounts, intent signals, segments and LinkedIn audiences inside the CRM. Teams with very large account universes or heavy advertising orchestration needs may still prefer a dedicated platform. Test your own use case in each demo.
Which HubSpot plan do I need for ABM?
Per HubSpot's documentation, ABM tools need Marketing Hub and Sales Hub at Professional or Enterprise. Buyer intent is available on several hubs and most features use HubSpot Credits.
Is HubSpot buyer intent final?
HubSpot's documentation marked the Buyer Intent tool as beta when we last checked, in October 2026. Features and pricing can change, so confirm the current state before you commit.
Do you recommend a platform?
We recommend the route that fits your CRM, account list, channels and team. We are a Demandbase partner, implement 6sense, and set up HubSpot ABM, so we can compare all three without a built-in bias.
